Classification of waterborne polyurethane
- According to particle size and appearance, it can be divided into polyurethane aqueous solution (particle size<0.001 μ m, transparent appearance), polyurethane aqueous dispersion (particle size: 0.001-0.1 μ m, translucent appearance), polyurethane lotion (particle size>0.1 μ m, white appearance);
According to the charge properties of hydrophilic groups, waterborne polyurethane can be divided into anionic waterborne polyurethane, cationic waterborne polyurethane, and non-ionic waterborne polyurethane. Among them, the anionic type is the most important, divided into two categories: carboxylic acid type and sulfonic acid type. - According to different synthetic monomers, waterborne polyurethane can be divided into polyether type, polyester type, and polyether polyester hybrid type. According to the different diisocyanates used, waterborne polyurethane can be divided into aromatic and aliphatic, or specifically into TDI type, HDI type, and so on.

The entire synthesis process of waterborne polyurethane can be divided into two stages. The first stage is pre stepwise polymerization, which involves the gradual polymerization of oligomeric diols, chain extenders, waterborne monomers, and diisocyanates through solution to produce waterborne polyurethane prepolymers with a relative molecular weight of 1000; The second stage is the dispersion of the pre polymer in water after neutralization.
